Joe Orr, friend and benefactor of many Maya workshops and events, has passed away from cancer at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. In the Gallery on this blog, I’ve attached several pix of Joe from last year’s trip to Palenque, Yaxchilan, Bonampak and Plan de Ayutla. Farewell, Joe.
November 3, 2013
The itinerary is already amazing, but now we have special guests accompanying us on the Maya Field Workshop December 7 to 14, 2013 !
David and Ann’s Stuart’s dad, Dr. George Stuart and his wife Melinda, a museum curator and historian of American culture will join us in Yucatan. We’ll visit Chichen Itza, Coba, Ek Balam and Izamal.
Dr. George Stuart spent nearly 40 years with National Geographic Society as archaeologist and cartographer. His published map of the ruins of Dzibilchaltun did much to establish his reputation as a scholar in the field of Maya studies, a reputation further consolidated by his highly valued specialized studies of the ruins of Cobá and on Maya art and epigraphy. More can be found about George Stuart here. http://www2.lib.unc.edu/rbc/Mayaexhibit/stuart.html
Though I have been to Coba and Chichen before, I have never been to Ek’ Balam and certainly not guided by one of the world’s great epigraphers!
Also, I’m looking forward to see friends who were at last year’s Workshop where we visited Palenque, Yaxchilan, Bonampak and Plan de Ayutla.
